In California, two groups connect County Offices of Education to every school and district in California: the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA), and its Curriculum and Instruction Steering Committee subcommittee (CISC). 

CES is partnering with the CISC subcommittee to improve science teaching and learning in order to close the achievement gap. CISC is currently working with Coherent Educational Solutions to improve elementary science instruction by meeting elementary science teachers where they are, and increasing teacher knowledge and confidence in their own pedagogy of NGSS and STEM practices. 

CES is working with the CISC Science Subcommittee for Elementary Science to offer hands-on professional learning experiences for science teachers, and also provides an Elementary Science Teacher Community of Practice that intends to teach science in K-6 classrooms on a regular basis.
